“Visit disaster recovery center Hetauda.”

Indreni College-Chitwan, Nepal

This is a short article on the visit to the disaster recovery center in Hetauda to fill the gap in our academics with a practical work scenario. We are very thankful to our college for providing this opportunity.

Disaster Recovery Center in Hetauda is a backup solution for our Nepal government data and information. The original data center of the Nepal government is located in Singha Darbar, Kathmandu. The disaster recovery center's goal is to protect against any failure that may happen in the future, i.e., regional failure. Regional failure means natural disasters—for example, earthquakes, floods, etc. The DRC is going to be set up as a standby. It means the production data are constantly streaming from the production site over the DRC site.

The government data center’s Disaster Recovery Center located at Hetauda was made by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to be formally put into operation on (Baisakh 31, 2076). This was started aiming at the development of an E-Governance system to protect information from any kind of natural disaster that may occur at any time in the next future.

The fundamental goal of the DRC is to minimize the impact of government data failures from natural or human-induced disasters through the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) backup system. For any kind of reason, if the DNS server of Kathmandu goes down or crashes, this backup from Hetauda will be on standby 24/7 during the operation. Every website from government offices would get uninterrupted and emergency backup if any problem occurred in the data center of Kathmandu data center.
